DescriptionThe Shapes Toolkit is a complete system, providing “support for the human behind the role”, to give doctors, managers, educators and their teams a ‘toolkit’ of resources to confidently address the different issues they face – whether it’s managing their workload, dealing with a complaint, or having a challenging conversation.
Additional information

The Shapes Toolkit programme is a powerful blend of neuroscience, coaching principles, and practical productivity and resilience techniques developed by Dr Rachel Morris, a former GP who knows what it’s like to work in a busy role on the frontline, who put together the tools and strategies that she needed to thrive as a busy doctor.

Aims

The Shapes tools help individuals to think differently about their work and escape the guilt of never being able to ‘do enough’. It will help them become less stressed, more productive and give them tools which enable them to make a deliberate choice to thrive in work and life.

It can also help managers, trainers and clinical leaders have better one-to-one conversations with their trainees, colleagues and teams around the underlying causes of stress and facilitate enhanced interprofessional relationships.

Objectives
  • To introduce participants to the core Shapes Toolkit models that help healthcare professionals recognise stress, reduce overwhelm and build personal resilience.
  • To equip participants with simple, practical tools to prioritise competing demands, set boundaries confidently and take back control of their workload.
  • To strengthen confidence, communication and self awareness so participants can respond more effectively to challenging situations, support others without rescuing and make sustainable choices at work.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify their own early signs of stress and use Shapes tools such as the Zone of Power, In the Corner and the Vortex of Busyness to create practical actions that reduce overwhelm.
  • Apply the Prioritisation Grid and other Shapes models to focus on what really matters, manage workload more intentionally and set healthier boundaries.
  • Use the Drama Triangle and Coaching Pentagon to shift unhelpful roles, improve conversations with colleagues and support others in a more empowering way.
