Description“Mindfulness at work and in life” is an experiential course based on the 8-week evidence-based Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course. The course is interactive with group work and meditation practices. It covers important aspects of mindfulness and the reality of working in the NHS.
Additional information

The half day will explore the definition of mindfulness, stress physiology and impact, the neuroscience, meditation practices, practical tips and signposting

Please consider the following before applying for the course:

• Are there any physical/mental health difficulties that may affect your ability to participate in the course?

• Are you currently dealing with any major life issues? (e.g. bereavement; separation or moving home)

• Who can support and encourage you during and after the course?

  • Please use a laptop rather than a mobile phone/iPad for this virtual course
  • Ensure that you will be warm and comfortable and will not be disturbed.
  • Have a mat/rug and a place to lie down.
  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Keep a couple of raisins for a mindfulness practice.
  • Commit to the full day to give the fullest experience of mindfulness and meditation.

Aims

The aims of the half day is to learn about, practice and experientially develop the skills of mindfulness practices to manage stress and promote self-care and well-being at work and in life.

Objectives

1) To become aware of the meaning of mindfulness and the evidence base

2) To understand the role of mindfulness in the management of stress and life enhancement

3) To experience the meditation practices to develop mindfulness

4) To be signposted to resources on mindfulness and self-care

5) To take away practical tips to apply the principles of mindfulness at work and in life

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, you will have:

  • Gained knowledge about mindfulness, meditation and the evidence base in the management of stress and promoting general life enhancement.
  • Experientially learned and practiced the common meditation practices such as the body scan, the sitting meditation, mindful walking, mindful movement, and the 3-step breathing space.
  • Developed confidence in the use of these practices to help you develop a new way of looking at stress in life.
  • Been signposted to commonly used resources to support you in continuing your practice of mindfulness and meditation after the course ends.
