DescriptionKonrad Staines, Consultant Senior Lecturer at Bristol Dental Hospital will lead us through the oral mucosal lesions and oral manifestations of systemic disease that we come across in everyday practice. He will provide a sound knowledge base for the understanding of disease processes. Diagnosis, treatment and when to refer will be extensively presented and discussed during this interactive and informative course. This is an ideal way to update information on oral cancer to satisfy GDC requirements through a mixture of lectures and mini case scenarios.

Aims
  1. To provide an overview of the range of oral mucosal lesions that may present in general dental practice.
  2. To provide an awareness of the clinical presentation of oral potentially malignant lesions and oral cancer.
  3. To provide an awareness of the diagnostic approach to oral mucosal lesions in  specialist oral medicine practice.
Objectives
  1. By the end of the course the participants will be able to recognise the mucosal lesions that require an onward referral for specialist assessment.
  2. By the end of the course the participants will have increased awareness of the diagnositic pitfalls of oral mucosal disease presenting in general dental pratice.
Learning outcomes

by the end of the day course participants should;

1. be able to demonstrate knowledge of the range of mucosal lesions that may present in general dental practice.

2. be able to demonstrate knowledge of the clinical presentation of oral potentially malignant lesions and oral cancer and when to refer these.
