Aims

A day designed for Foundation Doctors who may not have had a job in psychiatry.

Our aim is to bring you up to speed with topics that are of key importance to doctors whatever their specialty.

The day is highly interactive, structured around cases and with plenty of chances to practice your communication skills in simulated consultations.

Objectives

We will cover:

  • The Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act
    How this applies to challenging clinical situations, but also common scenarios in the hospital.
  • We cover assessing and describing mental states in a MSE.
    We will also cover assessment key principles when assessing risk.
  • Give attendees practice in communicating with challenging simulated patients.
  • Give an overview of how the COVID-19 pandemic has effected mental health in the UK.
