Medical Education Day (044UHB)
Availability | Course has taken place |
Subject | F2 Regional Teaching |
Description | This is an exciting and innovative regional study day which has been developed to allow trainees to gain a further insight into Medical Education and the world of simulation. |
Additional information | A requirement within the Foundation Curriculum is “Development of the Clinical Teacher” and this day will allow trainees to excel beyond these current requirements. The day will begin with an introduction to Medical Education, led by a co-director of the Teaching and Learning for Healthcare Professionals Course, which currently delivers the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education in the University of Bristol for current Clinical Teaching Fellows in the region. The Postgraduate Course is extremely well received and this day aims to introduce the core principles of medical education from this programme into this regional study day. The morning session is very interactive and will allow trainees to help develop more innovative teaching sessions for their future use, extending beyond the traditional Powerpoint slides! The second part of the day will introduce trainees to simulation and we will train users in how to use simulators and how to design basic scenarios and then run debrief sessions thereafter. A certificate from the Bristol Medical Simulation Centre will be issued upon successful completion of the day. This day represents an excellent opportunity for Foundation Trainees to enhance their portfolios in teaching and medical education, which is an essential requirement in successful applications for specialty training in future. The day will also allow trainees to network with current leaders in medical education and teaching fellows, and further information will be given to attendees on how to optimise applications to the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and roles as Clinical Teaching Fellows in the region, which are now increasingly competitive to secure. We encourage trainees to book onto the course early as we expect very high demand; we are also happy for trainees to attend even if they have completed their mandatory 60 hours of learning. We look forward welcoming you to the Bristol Medical Simulation Centre, the oldest simulation centre in the UK! |
