Aims | Whilst contribution to quality improvement is mandatory for progression through the Foundation Programme at both Foundation Year 1 (FY1) and Foundation Year 2 (FY2) level, sustainability is not yet a central theme. The impact of climate change on human health presents “the biggest public health threat of the century” yet many doctors don’t feel equipped to tackle this. Anecdotally, involvement in QI is seen as a box to be ticked rather than a chance to innovate and drive change. The SusQI framework is a way to deliver sustainable healthcare and create meaningful change. This teaching day presents a unique opportunity to learn about sustainable healthcare and SusQI, and develop a project to take ownership over a process to deliver change. Morning: An introduction to sustainable healthcare and the Sustainability in Quality Improvement (SusQI) process. Afternoon: Guided session during which attendees will have the opportunity to plan own SusQI project under expert supervision.
Objectives | 1. Introduce Key Concepts (Role of sustainability and SusQI in healthcare). 2. Teach attendees how to measure environmental and social impact of QI projects. 3. Work with attendees to develop own Sustainability QI projects in own deanery. 4. Networking opportunity for those with an interest in Sustainable healthcare – including potential QI project supervisors
