DescriptionThis session will be delivered by Dr Victoria Turner of the Health Protection Team. Vic Turner is a public health consultant at North Yorkshire Council, where she leads on the Health Protection portfolio. Vic and her team work with partners across the system including the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), NHS/Integrated Care Boards, environmental health and IPC teams on a range of health protection issues from air quality to managing infectious disease outbreaks.

Aims

You will be provided with an overview of health protection, including the system-wide partnership working that is in place to deliver health protection responses. During the second half of the workshop you will work as a group to respond to an example incident, considering the needs and impacts from different community perspectives.

Learning outcomes
  • Describe the main stakeholders and agencies at a local, national and international level involved in health protection and their roles and responsibilities, including in emergency preparedness.
  • Understand the role of disease surveillance and epidemiology and the steps involved in outbreak/incident investigation and management
  • Understand the impact of health inequalities on health protection prevention and response
