This course will introduce delegates to the concept of Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) as a modern and novel approach to the management of the Periodontal and Dental Implant Maintenance Patient.

Sally started her career in Dentistry as a Dental Nurse, and went on to train as a Dental Hygienist and in 2002 gained the Royal College of Surgeons Diploma in Dental Therapy at the University of Manchester.

Aims

To provide delegates with the theory, evidence, treatment and management protocols of Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) for Periodontal and Dental Implant Maintenance

Objectives

During the session delegates will

  • Discuss the role of the dental hygienist / therapist in the assessment, treatment and management of the patient with dental implants and the patient requiring periodontal maintenance.
  • Explore the equipment, instruments and materials necessary to provide adequate support using the GBT concept to these patients.
  • Examine the necessary skills and knowledge to competently and confidently provide assessment, treatment and supporting care for these patients.
  • Determine when referral for more specialist care is necessary
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the delegate will understand how to:
