DescriptionThis Hands-on course has been designed for Dental Practitioners who wish to develop their clinical competencies in basic extraction techniques.
Additional information

Learn how to confidently apply newly acquired skills in managing difficult extractions within the general dental practice. This course offers a highly interactive learning experience that combining access to an online learning platform with 'hands on' training. Delegates will also be offered the opportunity to attend a further date to observe a Tier 2 provider in Primary Care.

This course will offers 7.5 hours of eCPD in total.

*Prior to the session, delegates are required to access an online learning platform and to complete 5 modules before attending the Hands on day. 1.5 hours of eCPD will be given for completion. Failure to complete the 5 modules will result in you not being permitted to attend the 6 hour hands on clinical skills section of the course.

Access to the online learning platform will be emailed to you 1 week before the course.

Aims

Delegates will be able to perform minor oral surgery (MOS) within a simulated setting, develop their skills, learn new techniques and increase their confidence in aspects of Oral Surgery.

Objectives
  • Identify, diagnose and assess patient suitability for MOS within practice.
  • Recognise how to move on from simple to surgical extraction (coping with broken teeth).
  • Discuss appropriate referral procedures.
  • Recognise appropriate instruments and materials.
  • Demonstrate the principles of flap design and bone removal.
  • Demonstrate the principles of suturing.
  • Display closure of an OAC/ flap advancement periosteal release.
  • Discuss the management and associated complications if impacted teeth.
  • Discuss the management of appropriate pain and anxiety control.
  • Be given the opportunity in attending an optional half day observing a Tier 2 provider in Primary Care
Learning outcomes

Delegates will have greater confidence in conducting routine minor oral surgery within general practice and understand when it is appropriate to refer.
