Aims

To review National Standards for Decontamination in primary dental care to support compliance & to improve understanding of the importance of effective decontamination of instruments.

Objectives
  • Discuss each stage of the decontamination cycle
  • Evaluate different methods of cleaning, & sterilisation
  • Recognise the testing and validation requirements for decontamination equipment
  • Review requirements needed to effectively manage and monitor the decontamination process
  • Clarify which records should be made available
Learning outcomes

Following the session participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate compliance with the National Standards for decontamination of dental instruments in primary dental care.
  • Develop systems for the effective management and monitoring of decontamination processes and keep accurate records
