To inform delegates of the benefits of UKPHR registration and highlight the CPD offer provided by the regional NW scheme

NIHR LOTUS Study 

To raise awareness of the existing evidence for base water fluoridation and to consider how some of the remaining questions may be addressed using a novel research design.

Objectives

Understand the retrospective portfolio process.

NIHR LOTUS Study

  • Review the history and extent of water fluoridation in England
  • Highlight the existing evidence base for water fluoridation and topical fluoride products
  • Raise awareness of the gaps in the evidence base for water fluoridation
  • Share the design and methodology of a contemporary research study on water fluoridation
Learning outcomes

UKPHR Registration

Delegates can opt to engage with the scheme to develop their public health skills and decide whether to become a registered public health practitioner.

NIHR LOTUS Study

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Have a greater understanding of the history and current extent of water fluoridation in England
  • Be aware of the key research studies that provide the current evidence base for water fluoridation and other fluorides
  • Appreciate how the context for water fluoridation has changed over time and why up to date research is needed
  • Understand the challeges involved in carrying out research on water fluoridation, particularly in adult populations
  • Be aware of an ongoing research study on water fluoridation
