Compromised First Permanent Molars (cFPM) due to caries or hypomineralistion are quite common in young children in the North West - but treatment planning and management have their challenges.

Aims

Understand and be confident in assessing cFPM in children in primary care and have knowledge of appropriate management strategies in different clinical situations

Objectives

The webinar will cover

  • The diagnosis of conditions that can lead to cFPM (caries, MIH and other) and identify when FPM are of poor prognosis long term
  • How to apply national guidelines to the treatment planning for cFPM
  • Prevention and management strategies that can be carried out by the primary care dental team
  • The type of cases that may need Specialist Care; and how and when to appropriately refer to Specialist Dental Services.
Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the primary care dentist and therapist will feel more confident in identification and management of those cases of cFPM in young children that can be managed in primary care, have increased knowledge of relevant guidelines and management strategies, and will be able to identify the more complex cases that will require support from Specialist Dental Services.
