Additional information

The presentation will look at the relevant safeguarding adults policies, including The Care Act and The Mental Capacity Act and how these fit into the standards set out by our professional bodies and local safeguarding procedures. The presentation will utilise case studies so that the delegates will improve their own confidence in applying safeguarding practices in their day to day work , know where to go for support and also understand how they fit into the larger multi-agency team within safeguarding adults.

This scheme is currently a pilot for Greater Manchester Dental Teams only.

Aims

To improve confidence in professionals applying safeguarding principles in their day to day work by utilising case studies and thus, enabling the professionals to support adults at risk of abuse and neglect.

Objectives
  • Examine the ways in which abuse, harm and neglect can impact a persons life.
  • Classify the significance of health deficits on health and wellbeing through the life course.
  • Define the legal, professional, and ethical responsibilities around safeguarding adults.
  • Identify the best practice in documentation, record keeping, and data protection issues in relation to information sharing for safeguarding purposes.
  • Review the guidance related to participation in safeguarding enquiries and reviews.
  • Recognise the professional duty to report safeguarding concerns in line with organisational and professional guidance.
  • Recognise the importance of establishing, acting or making a decision in person’s best interests as reflected in legislation and key statutory and non-statutory guidance.
  • Describe how to access local safeguarding supervision, networks & support.
Learning outcomes

Following the session delegates will:

  • Have improved knowledge, skills and confidence in supporting individuals with safeguarding concerns
  • know who to report concerns to
  • understand what responsibility they have in safeguarding adults.
