Additional information

Whether you work face-to-face with children, young people and adults at risk or come into contact with them only occasionally, then Safeguarding is a legal requirement. This course is designed to enable you to comply with statutory guidance and designed to protect and promote the safety and welfare of children and adults at risk.

Registration begins at 13:15pm

*Please note this course is fully subsidised by Health Education England, if you fail to attend this session you will be charged a cancellation fee of £30

Aims

This course is designed to raise awareness to professionals of the legislation and guidance relating to safeguarding relative to the work of dental professionals and GDC standards; how to recognise concerns, who you report to and how to record concerns in practice.

Objectives

Children

  • Understand the legal and historical context of safeguarding children and young people
  • Have a knowledge of the categories and their definitions, signs and symptoms of child abuse
  • Know what to do if you’re worried a child is being abused
  • Understand why and how to share information in relation to safeguarding children and young people
  • Develop an awareness of solutions and barriers to safeguarding children within health
  • Gain knowledge of the context of child protection within a health environment

Adults at risk

  • Understand the legal and historical context of safeguarding adults at risk- Care Act 2014
  • Increased awareness of the categories of abuse and signs and symptoms of adult abuse
  • Understand how to respond to allegations of abuse
  • Understand how to refer and report concerns or allegations of adult abuse
  • To increase knowledge and skills on information sharing and multi-agency working - DPA 2018
  • Awareness of the principles of determining capacity
Learning outcomes

At the end of the course you will 

  • be familiar with current legislation and guidance surrounding safeguarding children and adults at risk
  • know the signs and symptoms to look out for
  • know what to do if you are worried that a patient is being harmed or neglected and know how to respond
