This session for the whole dental team will identify the stipulations of the Enhanced Continuing Professional Development scheme. There will be consideration of good CPD choices and the importance of reflective practice to determine their effectiveness. Master the skills to build and present a professional, comprehensive portfolio supporting the role and care you provide.

Aims

To provide the dental team with the knowledge and skills necessary to create an effective personal development plan and produce a well-organized portfolio of professional practice which shows their adherence to the GDC professional standards and enhanced CPD scheme and also their ability to reflect effectively on their role and the care they provide.

Objectives
  • Discuss with colleagues the requirements of the GDC Enhanced CPD scheme.
  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect at an appropriate professional level, and discuss how reflection can be incorporated into a portfolio, both to underpin good CPD choices and consider the effectiveness of CPD that has been undertaken.
  • Undertake exercises that help formulate a personal development plan.
  • Discuss reasons why a professional portfolio is required and the different circumstances in which it may need to be produced for others to review.
  • Discuss effective ways to structure and present a portfolio
Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the main components of the GDC Enhanced CPD scheme and be able to disseminate this to other team members;
  • Create a thoughtful Personal Development Plan that reflects their professional needs;
  • Discuss the importance of reflective practice in the Enhanced CPD scheme and as part of general professional practice;
  • Support and lead their team members to achieve the requirements of the enhanced CPD scheme, including reflective practice;
  • Demonstrate skill in selecting, compiling and presenting appropriate information in order to create a professional portfolio that is comprehensive, well-structured and easy to review.
