2. To review NICE guidance on oral and dental health.

3. To analyse the care pathway approach.

4. To provide information and advice on Performers List Validation by Experience training and the training portfolio.

5. To discuss personal and professional development planning.

6. To explore how reflective practice can improve experience of care, clinical effectiveness and patient safety.

Learning outcomes

Following this course learners should be able to:

1. Rationalise the NHS Charges Regulations and mitigate the risk of falling foul of dental service regulators.

2. Use evidence-based guidance in clinical decision making.

3. Use the care pathway approach to encourage patients to take responsibility for protecting and maintaining their own oral health.

4. Explain the Performers List Validation by Experience training process and summarise the evidence required to demonstrate equivalence against the Professional, Managerial, Clinical and Communication domains of the Foundation Dentist curriculum.

5. Demonstrate recognition of the lifelong learning process.

6. Use reflective practice for training, learning, personal development and self-improvement.
