Aims

The aim of this course is to provide an update in Oral Health Education & Promotion in dental practice, so as to contribute to overall health

Objectives

To:

  1. Explain the perio-systemic link, and the oral implications of general diseases
  2. Identify behaviours and habits that impact oral health
  3. Review patient compliance with health messages that are delivered in practice
  4. Discuss the latest research in healthy habit formation
  5. Demonstrate the practical application of facilitating patients with healthy habit formation, and the breaking of bad habits
  6. Describe current oral hygiene messages given in practice
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to

  1. describe the role of oral health in general wellbeing
  2. identify determinants of oral and general health
  3. explain the impact of diet, oral hygiene, alcohol use, and smoking & vaping on oral health
  4. appraise Oral Health improvement activities
  5. deliver oral health advice that supports patients in healthy habit formation and oral health improvements
