DescriptionTHIS IS ONLY OPEN TO IMG TRAINEES. We are looking for colleagues from our existing workforce to help support new international medical graduates settle into their training posts. The session will be facilitated by one of our experienced clinicians from DoctorsTraining. We are a collaboration of doctors with a wealth of experience at a local, regional and national level in postgraduate medical education, coaching, appraisal, well-being and medical leadership. As a group we are passionate about the support and development of doctors by doctors. The workshops have been designed and are delivered by our faculty of clinicians who are experts in their field and inspirational trainers. We have the unique balance allowing us to share many years of real experience along with the latest updates and changes in training from our core team occupying key leadership roles in medical educations.

Aims

To provide an introduction to mentoring and coaching skills to enable you to support new international medical graduates settle into their training posts.

Objectives

The workshop will focus on

  • Describe the similarities and differences between coaching and mentoring approaches.
  • Develop enhanced skills including active listening, supportive and challenging questioning
  • Build rapport and respectfully challenge assumptions, perceptions and limiting beliefs to enable wider perspectives and generate more options.

Opportunity to reflect on strategies to support the integration of international medical graduates in the NHS.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session you will have gained transferrable skills to provide mentorship and support to new trainees transitioning to working in the NHS
