The presentation will hopefully leave you with questions of your own and an insight into the successes and pitfalls of the Newcastle journey. Aims

The presentation will introduce some key elements around decolonising, increasing inclusivity and improving cultural competence in the dental education setting.

Objectives

- Briefly outline whether a decolonised curriculum is an inclusive one.

-Think about your own institution and its strategy to improve inclusivity in the learning environment (top up or bottom down).

Learning outcomes

• Be more aware of the need to improve and maintain inclusivity in dental education and understand the particular stimuli for change in Newcastle.

• Be aware of some of the projects designed to decolonise the Newcastle curriculum.

• Understand how cultural competence benefits learners, teachers and patients.
