Aims

To update the dental team in the common medical emergencies that could be encountered in and out of the dental surgery in line with current guidance.

Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will

Be more confident at analysing the patients and making a differential diagnosis

Learn to use A B C D E in analysing the patient

Be more confident in the use of the small number of emergency drugs now recommended for use in the dental surgery for various medical emergencies e.g., syncope, asthma, epilepsy, hypoglycaemia, anaphylaxis, choking, angina, myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest

Know when to call for help and what to report to the emergency services

Use basic life support until the emergency service arrives

Know how to work as an effective team

Understand that these skills need regular practice

Know what is expected of the current Guidance
