Lecturer profileStJohn was appointed as Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) after holding previous posts of Director of Dental Research and Knowledge Transfer from October 2009, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Jan 2010. As well as both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dentistry StJohn is also responsible for the MB BS Programme which has been recruiting for commencement in September 2015. Alongside his role in UCLan, StJohn is currently the Robert Bradlaw advisor in the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is currently Editor in Chief of the Faculty Dental Journal (FDJ). He is also the past President of the Northwest Branch of the British Dental Association but remains Chairman of the Fylde Section

StJohn holds numerous examiner-ships at home and abroad advising on the establishment of many dental undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has research interests in the role of oral bacteria in systemic disease and the biology of stem cells derived from dental pulp.

Lecturer profileGraduated from Newcastle in 2006 and moved to Scotland to complete foundation training in Edinburgh. This was followed by SHO jobs in Aberdeen and the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. I completed specialist training in Leeds and was appointed there in October 2014 as Consultant in Restorative Dentistry with a focus on periodontology and developmental anomalies.

Lecturer profileJohn is a consultant cardiologist based in Bradford and provides a general cardiology service to the local population. In addition he has a subspecialty interest in coronary intervention and mitral valvuloplasty. He performs coronary interventional procedures locally in Bradford and as part of the regional Heart attack service run from the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds.

In addition to his clinical duties he is involved in post graduate education and training as Training Programme Director for Cardiology in West Yorkshire. His area of interest is incorporating simulation to improve training of procedural skills. He also writes questions for the MRCP Exam and is a regular examiner for the membership and 3rd and 5th year medical students.

Lecturer profileDr Mayank Patel has worked as a Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Acute Medicine at University Hospital since 2008. He completed his specialist clinical training in Wessex, rotating through Bath, Salisbury and Southampton hospitals. Since starting as a Consultant, he has overhauled and developed the trusts adult inpatient diabetes service and worked with commissioners to bring new adult insulin pump and diabetic foot services to the trust. He also contributes to medical undergraduate and postgraduate diabetes training, as well as regularly delivering diabetes teaching sessions to patients, public and other healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care. He codeveloped ‘Microguide DiAppbetes’, a smartphone application to help HCPs managing people with diabetes. He has a keen interest in diabetes education and was awarded the Quality in Care awards 2015 award for Outstanding Educator in Diabetes’.

Lecturer profileAmit currently works as a Specialty Trainee Registrar in Oral Surgery in the Yorkshire Deanery. He has previously worked in training posts in the Northwest and Midlands and also worked part time as a general dental practitioner. He recently completed his Diploma in Conscious Sedation in Dentistry from Newcastle University. Amit is regularly involved in post graduate teaching to dental foundation and core trainees.

Lecturer profileI trained and worked as a Dental Nurse at the Leeds Dental institute for 10 year before attending the University of Leeds where she trained as a dually qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist. Since graduating Lucy has gained experience as a Dental Therapist working in NHS and private dental practice and the community dental service. For the last 6 years Lucy has worked in the maxfax, restorative and orthodontic departments at St Luke’s Hospital where she provides treatment and preventive support to patients with complex oral needs, medical histories and patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer. Lucy has a keen interest in public health, health promotion, health communication and behaviour change which she has studied at postgraduate level. Lucy also works within the paediatric dental department at the University of Leeds as a Research Assistant. Currently Lucy is working on projects surrounding effective methods of communication and psychological theory for behaviour change conversations and oral health interventions to reduce inequalities in oral disease in young children.
