Aims

To discuss partial denture theory with emphasis on: principles of denture design, overdentures, overlay dentures, use of milled crowns, management of free end saddles and briefly rehabilitation of patients with palatal defects.

To discuss complete denture theory with emphasis on: principles of complete denture design, impression techniques, occlusal registration techniques, management of flabby ridges, gagging patients and basic implant retained overdentures.

Objectives

By the end of the session, delegates should:

  • Have a working understanding of partial and complete denture design
  • Appreciate which impression and occlusal registration techniques may be appropriate when managing a removable prosthodontic patient.
  • Understand how to design overlay/overdentures.
  • Understand how to manage a patient with combination syndrome.
  • Understand the principles of duplicate and immediate denture prosthodontics
  • Have an understanding of basic implant retained overdenture design
  • Appreciate the patients with palatal defects can be rehabilitated with obturators and need referral to a specialist centre
