Aims

This course aims to provide DCPs with knowledge and understanding of current guidance and legislation requirements for a number of lifelong learning topics with the GDC. Topics should satisfy most PDPs for those undertaking a clinical role in dentistry.

Objectives

A - Ethics & Professionalism (I hour vCPD) GDC Outcome D

Recognise personal and professional responsibilities.

Consider how GDC registration affects clinical and personal activity.

Discuss indemnity requirements and understand GDCs Fitness to Practice

A - Decontamination & Legionella Training (2 hours vCPD) GDC Outcome C,B

Discuss the Department of Health’s guidance document – HTM 01 05 and explore how to comply with essential quality requirements and Best Practice for reprocessing instruments.

Describe the purpose of maintaining water lines and preventing Legionella HTM 04 01, HSE ACOP L8 and the HSE HSG274 Part 2 (2014)

A - Risk Factors for Oral Cancer (1.5 hours vCPD) GDC Outcome C,B

Recognise basic signs and symptoms of oral cancer.

Describe key risk factors associated with oral cancer.

Discuss preventative methods to support patients change lifestyles.

A – Emergency Medical Drugs (1.5 hours vCPD) GDC Outcome A,C

Recognise basic signs and symptoms for a variety of medical conditions.

Describe storage and use of medical drugs following Resus Council Guidelines.
