Lecturer profile | A retired Consultant Orthodontist in the WHSCT, Roz is presently Chair of Probing Stress in Dentistry in Northern Ireland (NI), co-chair of Mental Wellness in Dentistry (UK) and co-chair of the Discreet Working Group (NI). Roz has been involved in representative work most of her career and presently chairs the NI Council of the BDA. She also chairs the Honours and Awards Committee of the BDA.
While in post, Roz was involved in Trust leadership, governance, audit and appraisal. She was Clinical Lead for seven years and chaired the Hospital Training Committee of the NI Deanery for nine years.
Roz is a Past President of the British Dental Association 2019/2020 and the NI Branch 1999. She is President of the Lindsay Society 2021/2023.
Roz established and chairs "Probing Stress in Dentistry", which works to raise the awareness of mental well-being in the dental workforce in NI and to establish a network of mental health leads to support and signpost dental teams who are in difficulty. She is also co-chair of Discreet NI, working to establish a Practitioner Health Service for doctors, dentists and pharmacists in NI.
In February 2020 Roz hosted and chaired the “Wellbeing in Dentistry” event, a multidisciplinary roundtable discussion and action plan. She continues to lead on wellbeing in dentistry in the BDA and remains a member of the Education, Ethics and Dental Team Working Committee.
In 2020/21, Roz was a member of an Expert Reference Group for the General Dental Council to; Mental Health and Wellbeing in Dentistry: a Rapid Evidence Assessment.
Roz is part of the collaboration which has developed and maintains the resource www.supportfordentalteams.org and is co-chair of the Mental Health Dental Wellness Working Group, developing a framework for Mental Health Leads in the dental workplace. www.mhwd.org
Roz is also working with the FDI to develop wellbeing resources for dental team members and National Dental Association. In her spare time, Roz enjoys choral singing and gardening. |
