Lecturer profileDr Palmer qualified from Liverpool Dental School and worked in mainly NHS practice until recently as an associate and a principal. He completed research on antibiotic prescribing in general dental practice and was awarded a PhD in 2001.

He has published over 30 scientific papers on antibiotic prescribing in dentistry and co-authored the FGDP guidelines on antimicrobial prescribing. He lectures to VTs, postgraduates and MSc groups and maintains research interests in antibiotic prescribing.

He is a postgraduate tutor and research fellow for Health Education North West and until recently was a national board member and chair of examinations of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons of England.
