NOTE FOR DELEGATES

Please bring your Legionella Risk Assessment, Log Sheets and Schematic Diagrams along to the course so that discussion and individual dental practice questions may be answered by the speaker.

Each delegate will receive a copy of HSC’s Approved Code of Practice – The control of legionella bacteria in water systems.

In accordance with HSC’s requirement to ensure that adequate knowledge is provided, and understood each delegate will be requested to complete a short exam which will be based on the above topics. The aim of this exam is to validate that that the appropriate information has been understood and acknowledged. It is not intended to be a used for passing or failing delegates but as a means in which areas of confusion can be identified and clarified.

  • Awareness of Legionella - An introduction to legionella and the history of the.
  • Identification of Responsibilities - Identification of individual and company responsibilities and consequences of failure to adhere to these requirements.
  • Legislative Requirements - An introduction HSC’s ACoP L8 and an explanation of other legally enforceable legislation relating to legionella.
  • The Need For Action – Why is such an importance placed upon legionella
  • Approved Alternative Methods of Control –This section will detail the prime options and highlight the relevant advantages and disadvantages.
  • Risk Assessments –This section details the key elements of any quality risk assessment.
  • Record Keeping - This section provides the delegate with a reference log book and details the exact procedures of how and when records should be maintained.
  • What to do in the event of an outbreak or positive sample of legionella. –What action should be carried out when high counts are identified.
Objectives

By the end of the day, delegates will hold sufficient knowledge to fully understand the legal implications of the relevant documentation and to understand how to implement a suitable control and management scheme within their dental practice. It will also instruct all delegates to recognise and respond to elevated risks by undertaking prescribed corrective action.
