Aims
  • The aim of the lecture is to describe developmental defects of enamel , developmental defects of dentine and some anomalies of tooth morphology.
  • Possible aetiological factors will be discussed and treatment options will be outlined.
  • In addition it will look below the surface at the underlying histopathology and microstructure using new techniques to produce 3D images in order to gain a further 'in depth' understanding and appreciation
Objectives
  • understand the different types of developmental defects of enamel and dentine
  • have an understanding of genetic and environmental causes
  • understand treatment needs of different types of defects
  • gain a further understanding of the mechanism of formation of defects of tooth structure and morphology at a 3 dimensional microscopic level
