Aims
  • To review common oral mucosal problems
  • To increase awareness of the presentation, diagnosis and management of common oral medicine conditions/lesions
  • To review oral mucosal problems in relation to some systemic diseases
  • To highlight more common & significant adverse oral mucosal effects of drug therapy
  • To provide an overview of current management strategies
  • To review the referral process and the role of interdisciplinary working for these patients
Objectives

By the end of the session you should be able to

  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the more commonly seen oral mucosal problems
  • Recognise the signs & symptoms of common oral medicine conditions
  • Accurately describe oral lesions/conditions
  • Understand the importance of taking a complete drug history at each dental visit
  • Have a greater awareness of principles of management of common oral medicine conditions and understand the principles of referral
