DescriptionThe 2015 IRMER Major Event Course is delivered by the Newcastle team Dr Iain Macleod and Mr Tony Owens. Dr Iain Macleod is currently a Consultant and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Dental & Maxillofacial Radiology at the Newcastle Dental School and Hospital. Mr Tony Owens is the Superintendent Radiographer and the Radiation Protection Supervisor at the Newcastle Dental Hospital. He has also been awarded Associate Clinical Lecturer status by the University of Newcastle

Aims

 The aims of this course are:

  • to provide an update and overview of dental radiology and radiography for dental practice
  • to review those aspects of U.K. legislation that govern the use of ionising radiation in dental practice
  • to look at the selection criteria and interpretation of dental radiographs
  • to comply with the mandatory requirements of the GDC core competency in dental radiology and those of the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations 2000
Objectives

At the end of this course the participants should:

  • be informed of current developments in dental radiology and radiography
  • be aware of the legal requirements involved in the use of ionising radiation in dental practice
  • refresh their knowledge in the interpretation of dental radiographs
  • have complied with the mandatory requirements of the GDC core competency in dental radiology and the Ionising Medical Exposure Regulations 2000
