Marion’s areas of specialist knowledge include: safeguarding children; all aspects of childcare and children’s services; Primary care; supervision and multi-agency working.

Her background is as a Health Visitor and more recently as the Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children within a large metropolitan borough (14 years) where she was responsible, with the Designated Doctor, for all aspects of safeguarding children within the health community.

A member of the local Safeguarding children board and chair of the learning and development sub group (10 years). In this role Marion was responsible for the development and delivery of multi-agency safeguarding strategies and training programmes. She has wide experience as a panel member of multi-agency serious case reviews with responsibility for implementing subsequent recommendations.

Marion continues to practice within the NHS as the Named Safeguarding Professional for General Practitioners and independent contractors in Bassetlaw.

Aims
  • To enable dental practitioners to develop an understanding of how children and vulnerable adults can be at risk of abuse.
  • To create an awareness of, and confidence in, using the processes that will enable an appropriate reaction within their role and responsibility.
Objectives

On completion of the training the participants will have:-

  • Identified what is meant by safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
  • Discussed who are the vulnerable groups and how these are recognised in practice
  • Knowledge of the categories of child abuse and the signs and indicators of each one
  • Understood the 3 stages of assessment for dental practitioner where abuse is suspected
  • An awareness of adult abuse and indicators of physical abuse in adults
  • Identified actions that are required to ensure children and vulnerable adults are safeguarded in their dental practice.
  • Understood how to respond to concerns about the safety and welfare of a child or vulnerable adult using local and organisational safeguarding policies and procedures.
