| Description | A very popular hands-on update, on the role of the dental team, in managing medical emergencies. Team attendance is encouraged – if you apply as a team we will endeavour to keep you in the group for the hands-on part of the course. | ||
| Additional information | In a series of lectures, workshops and small discussion groups, this course will introduce the dental team to systemic diseases affecting patients that may influence dental care. The common medical emergencies which may present in practice will be discussed. There will also be an update on the management of paediatric medical emergencies. The dental team will be introduced to the presentation of patients requiring emergency care and how each of these conditions may be managed appropriately. Kate Taylor and Julie Burke are both certified in advanced life support and are qualified to certify basic life support skills. Peter MacKay is an advanced paediatric life support instructor. Practical skills workshops will enable the dental team to recognise a patient in cardiac arrest and perform basic life support. There will also be workshops on emergency drugs, use of airway adjuncts, Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) and paediatric basic life support and management of choking. | ||
