Aims

To develop knowledge skills and competencies of the dental team to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.

Objectives

The objectives of the course are:

  • To raise awareness of national and local guidance and legislation relating to safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults.
  • To clarify the lead role of the Local Authority in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • To explore potential indicators of abuse including physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect
  • To consider the impact of adult health issues on the safety & welfare of dependant children and vulnerable adults
  • To explain what to do if you have concerns
  • To explain how and when to share relevant information and to work with other agencies and professionals to safeguard children
  • To reinforce the importance of record keeping
