DescriptionThe course provides the opportunity for all the new programme participants to meet the course organisers and network with fellow delegates. The session includes an interactive Dental Photography Workshop, introducing the fundamentals of photography in dental practice. Participants will learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of intra-oral and extra-oral photography through a short presentation followed by a hands-on session using their own cameras.

Exclusive to those on the Level 2 Paediatric Dentistry Programme (2027 Cohort).

Participants should bring their own clinical cameras wherever possible.

Aims

Induction: To discuss the format of the 2 year training programme, what is expected and timelines. Photography course: To enable participants to undertake good quality dental photography.

Objectives
  • Presentation, teaching the basics of how a DSLR works and the best equipment to use to obtain national standard dental images.
  • Practical workshop where participants can put the theory into practice.
Learning outcomes
  • Identify ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, colour balance and understand the impact of adjusting each for correct exposure
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to choose correct retractors and mirrors for intra-oral photography
  • Demonstrate understanding of data protection and ‘informed consent’ in relation to: medical records, publications and e-publications.
