The course is highly interactive and is run by a consultant and a specialist in paediatric dentistry. It is restricted to those candidates on the paediatric dentistry level 2 complexity care training programme.

Aims

To enhance skills in planning and delivering dental care for paediatric patients requiring treatment under inhalation sedation (IHS) or general anaesthesia (GA), with consideration of their individual physical, behavioural, and cognitive needs.

Objectives
  • Participate in case-based discussions to support treatment planning for common paediatric dental conditions.
  • Discuss patient assessment, selection, and consent processes for children and adolescents receiving IHS or GA.
  • Develop practical and organisational skills for planning and managing paediatric general anaesthetic lists.
Learning outcomes
  • Demonstrate enhanced understanding of treatment planning and management for paediatric patients requiring IHS or GA.
  • Apply knowledge to deliver safe and effective dental care for children with complex medical, behavioural, or developmental needs.
  • Confidently assess suitability for sedation or general anaesthetic care and contribute to multidisciplinary treatment planning.
