Aims

To understand how to effectively manage and decontaminate burs and handpieces in line with decontamination and safety legislation in the UK

Objectives
  • Label key elements of the dental handpiece
  • Identify how handpieces become contaminated and explain the risks associated with poor management of Bburs
  • Identify key legislation, evidence and guidance
  • Discuss the differences between autoclaves
  • Identify how to effectively remove contamination and Demonstrate compliance by using the correct cleaning protocol

  • Understand how Dental HP’s become contaminated
  • Be aware of why these risks need to be mitigated with a sufficient cleaning and disinfection protocol
  • Have knowledge of the appropriate legislation and guidance applicable in the maintenance of dental handpieces
