Aims

To enhance leadership skills of Dental Nurses when supporting Foundation Dentists during the dental foundation training year.

Objectives

During the event Dental Nurses will have the opportunity to:

· Define leadership in the context of supporting Foundation Dentists, discuss leadership qualities and analyse a range of leadership styles to identify own style

· Examine a range of scenarios and determine which leadership style would be most appropriate in the given situation

· Explore team roles and the skills mix in alignment to the scope of practice and design a work-based specification to demonstrate leadership skills across the four key leadership functions

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session you should be able to:

· Support the Foundation dentist by leading and guiding a collaborative team working approach to person centred care

· Possess a deeper insight and understanding of how dental nurse leadership skills are essential to the Foundation Training year

· Apply the learning within the Dental Nurse scope of practice
