Aims

To educate the whole dental sedation team on the medical issues,

social problems and possible drug interactions that can occur from the use of

prescribed, self-prescribed and recreational drugs.

Objectives

- To increase practitioners awareness of the use and incidence of

- recreational drugs and the social problems this can cause

- To highlight the possible medical effects that can occur from the use of self prescribed and recreational drugs

- To educate practitioners on significant clinical drug interactions that can occur from the use of prescribed, self-prescribed and recreational drugs

- To increase practitioners confidence in assessing the medical effects, social

problems and drug interactions of a patient on a prescribed, self-prescribed or recreational drugs

Learning outcomes

- Confidently assess children and adult patients who are taking prescribed, self-prescribed and recreational drugs

- Understand the clinically relevant drug interactions that can occur with the use of prescribed, self-prescribed or recreational drugs

- Use the knowledge gained from the course to enhance patient care and safety
