Aims

This course aims to explore how the dental team, working within primary care, may provide early detection and screening of oral cancer.

Objectives
  • Discuss why oral cancer prevalence is increasing in the UK.
  • Recognise why early detection is integral to saving lives in general dental practice.
  • Describe how the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme (MCSAS) can help save lives in primary care settings.
  • Describe the benefits of the MCSAS to the dental team, their patients and the wider community.
  • Provide an overview of how the scheme assists in safeguarding professionals’ responsibility in this area of work
