Inhalation sedation starter course (DCT06OCT23)

AvailabilityCourse has taken place
SubjectSedation
DescriptionTo train dental trainees to be able to deliver IHS to children and adults in a safe and effective manner in line with national guidelines and protocols.
Additional information

Dental Trainees where administering IHS techniques are part of their current training role. The applicant should currently be working within a role where they have access to inhalation sedation as at least 10 cases will be needed in order to complete training.

Health Education England’s role is to assist in “providing the training to enable achievement of relevant skills and knowledge in order to provide high quality care”. However, assessment and certification for independent practice using inhalation sedation are not the responsibility of HEE and hence cannot be provided. Therefore, it is essential that any delegates have a STAC accredited supervisor who can mentor the applicant and undertake supervision, assessment and certification. Completion of the course alone will not enable the delegate to undertake inhalation sedation independently.

Process for certification:

· Candidates attend the theory course and successfully complete assessment

· They complete the minimum number of assessments satisfactorily with accredited mentor

· Completion of feedback form prior to certification https://forms.office.com/r/vmvAFy8Y6F

· Certificate issued by accredited mentor (Trainers should have access to the TEAMS site)

· All details in regards to this are accessible by the accredited trainers on the regional MS teams site.

· Any questions should be directed to you supervisor in the first instance, and thereafter to imran.suida@nhs.net

To all trainees attending:

1. Please familiarise yourselves with the course documentation (via your trainer)

2. Please bring a smart device (phone/tablet/laptop) to complete the electronic quiz (via Microsoft forms)

3. Please ensure you have completed the pre-learning that will be emailed to you in advance of the course
