Additional information

Specific training will be provided for dental nurses to enable them to ‘press the exposure button’ after the dentist has set the exposure parameters and positioned the patient. A short assessment will be undertaken at the end of the session.

Aims

To update DCPs in radiation protection and provides specific training during the session for DCPs to be able to ‘press the exposure button’

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Discuss Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999, and IonisingRadiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000
  • Recognise the role of the dental nurse as operator in order to make an exposure
  • Define radiation protection in the dental environment
  • Discuss the principles of dental radiography
  • Describe a variety of dental radiographs and equipment
  • Recognise the importance of patient management
