DescriptionThis session is the inaugural meeting of the Safe Discharge Network Head and Neck Peer Review Group. This provides a forum for dental practice teams that are engaged in supporting oral cancer patients with post-treatment long term care. This face-to-face event allows engagement and interaction with all members of the group and will be facilitated by Restorative Consultants who are part of the Head and Neck Oncology MDT. There will be an opportunity for discussion of challenges faced by attendees. The session will also include an update on the oncology safe discharge network.

Aims

To provide support to dentists that will form the head and neck peer review group with the long term care of head and neck cancer patients.

Objectives

· Understand the role of dentists in caring for head and neck cancer patients.

· Understand methods to limit the risk of new dental disease.

· Be aware of the patient journey in the treatment of head and neck cancer.

· Understand how to seek help with planning and treating this cohort of patients.

Learning outcomes

· Be able to assess and provide routine dental maintenance for oncology patients.

· Be able to recognise common challenges in treating this cohort of patients.

· Be able to seek specialist guidance using the appropriate methods and at the correct time points.
