DescriptionThis full day course provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for dental nurses, hygienists or therapists to feel confident and competent in their ability to take dental impressions under the prescription of a dentist or CDT. Delegates should be able to provide the name of a supervising mentor willing to provide full support for 10 reflective log sheets undertaken in a clinical setting.

Delegates must be a GDC registrant, have appropriate Indemnity Insurance and hold a current CPR / medical emergency CPD certificate.

Aims

This course provides DCPs with knowledge and understanding in the principles for dental impression taking. It will provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills to ensure safe practice.

Objectives

Describe techniques to ensure a detailed alginate impression is taken.

Clarify clinical note taking for recording impressions.

Discuss evaluating and grading impressions and reflect on techniques to improve practice.

Explain methods for managing anxious patients.

Describe legislative requirements including health and safety, waste management and infection control

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session you will be able to: Apply knowledge and understanding to the theory of dental impression taking and progress as a safe beginner to take accurate dental impressions under prescription from a dentist or CDT.
