Aims
  • To give tips on treatment planning for children for dentists working both in the Salaried and General Dental Service
  • To discuss treatment planning for patients requiring treatment under Local Anaesthesia (with/without sedation) and General Anaesthesia
  • To discuss the paediatric dental care of children with commonly seen medical conditions who may present to general dental practice.
  • Practice treatment planning for different trauma scenarios that may present to you in practice
  • To discuss complex trauma scenarios, treatment options and when to refer
  • Increase awareness of advanced techniques available in secondary care for the management poor prognosis permanent incisors
Objectives
  • Have gained a better understanding of treatment planning for patients in the primary care including the role of prevention, different restorative approaches and tips on local anaesthesia
  • Understand treatment planning for patients being referred for extractions under general anaesthetic
  • Be able to plan care in order to improve the outcomes for their child dental patients
  • Have a greater understanding of common medical conditions in the paediatric patient
  • Be able to identify the appropriate patent to manage in a primary care setting
  • Be able to identify specific paediatric dental management concerns associated with common medical conditions
  • Be able to diagnose various dental injuries
  • Be more confident in their knowledge of currently recommended techniques for the management of dental trauma in children
  • Know when to refer children for the management of various dental injuries and what advanced techniques are available locally
