Aims

To provide an overview of the provision of inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen for dental care in children.

Learning outcomes
  • By the end of the course, delegates will have:
  • Knowledge of the historical background and theoretical basis for the use of nitrous oxide in inhalation sedation
  • An understanding of the practical aspects of using nitrous oxide for inhalation sedation, including indications for and contraindications to use
  • An update of the current guidelines in conscious sedation for dentistry and an awareness of the practical requirements of these
  • Considered clinical governance in relation to the use of nitrous oxide sedation and ideas for audit
  • An awareness of the adverse effects of nitrous oxide exposure to patients and the dental team and how to minimise these
