Aims

Prof Marsh will describe how the application of microbial ecological concepts can explain how dental disease develops from what should be a beneficial natural oral microflora, and how this understanding can lead to new approaches to control caries and periodontal diseases.

Prof Marsh will conclude with a description of studies of contaminated dental unit water lines and the identification of effective treatments.

Objectives

By the end of the lecture delegates will have an increased understanding of the application of microbial ecological concepts and how this understanding can lead to new approaches to control caries and periodontal diseases.
