DescriptionThe SuppoRTT human factors and communication course is a one-day course using a blended approach of presentations group discussion and simulation-based education provided within a safe learning environment. This course is not suitable for parents to bring their children with them.

  • Please only book this course if you are available to attend the course and have applied for study leave in advance where required.
  • Please only book onto one instance of the same course.
  • If your availability changes, please cancel your place as soon as possible. If this is within one week of the course, you must email the team on england.lsfdcourses.yh@nhs.net.
  • Online bookings for the course will close one week prior to the course start date. If you wish to attend after this, you must email the team and they will inform you whether this is possible.
  • Where the course is a multi-session course, you must attend all sessions.

Aims

The course aims to refresh trainees’ communication skills using simulated patients, look at strategies for dealing with conflict and explore the importance of human factors in healthcare in order to increase the trainees confidence when returning to practice.

Objectives

The course utilises face to face training using talks, simulated patient communication scenarios, interactive exercises and group discussion.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the delegates should have confidence to return to practice. They should

  • Understand the different models for breaking significant news.
  • Have confidence to break significant news to patients and or their carers.
  • Understand how conflict can arise and strategies to deal with it.
  • Understand the role of human factors in healthcare.
