DescriptionThis interactive 2-Day course covers a wide range of topics to help you improve your communication skills at work. Topics covered include identifying your preferred team role, understanding how communication difficulties arise, becoming more assertive at work, communicating effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives, giving constructive feedback, structuring effective communication using the "Skilled Helper" model. The course is highly participative and practical. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice in a number of scenarios and receive constructive feedback on their communication skills.
Additional information

It is mandatory to attend both days of this course.  You cannot attend Day 2 if you have missed Day 1.  Please do not book this course if you have already booked/attended our 'Interpersonal Communication Skills' course. This course is very similar and covers similar content.

Aims
  • Dealing with challenging clinical communication situations, e.g. breaking bad news, responding to angry patients/carers/colleagues, etc.
  • Communicating to solve problems, not cause them! Understanding how you interact and how this can be improved to communicate in a positive and collaborative way
  • Giving constructive feedback
  • Receiving and responding to negative feedback
  • Effective communication – how to make your everyday communication more successful
  • Non-verbal communication - what our gestures and facial expressions can do to help or hinder our communication
Objectives

As a result of completing this course delegates will:

  • Develop their reflective techniques to identify learning opportunities and areas for development
  • Understand different models of communication and feedback, and how to apply them at work
  • Recognise difficult and challenging situations and how they can respond to them in a more positive and constructive way
