DescriptionThis is a course for General Practitioners who wish to Clinically Supervise the International General Practitioner (IGP) recruit in a Primary Care learning environment. This course is recommended (also a GMC requirement) for all the doctors who wish to be Clinical Supervisors or Educational Supervisors for the IGPs. If you are already a Foundation Year Trainer or a GP Trainer you will be find this course will help you supervise and support the training of the IGPs.

Please Note

Doctors who are Accredited GP / Foundation Trainers are not required to attend this course, however we feel it would be of benefit to attend to understand the International IGPR programme.

Structure of the course

The course will be run over the whole day (9:00-4:30).

There will be some presentations but most of the course learning will be provided in a small group format.

Objectives

By the end of the course the participant will:

  • Have a clear understanding of the role of a Clinical Supervisor and the primary health care team in learning and supervision of IGP
  • Have knowledge of the curriculum and how to identify the learning needs of the IGP
  • Be able to structure a teaching session for a learner and be aware of basic methods of teaching
  • Be able to teach and assess communication skills within the workplace
  • Understand the assessments that will be required and how to complete them
  • Have developed their own personal learning plan related to their role as a Clinical Supervisor
