DescriptionThis session will focus on addressing some key leadership challenges identified by the Leadership Fellows. During this interactive session, we will explore the concept of assertiveness, the difference between being assertive and other types of behaviour, and how to be more assertive in the workplace whilst still being ‘yourself’.
Additional information

This session will include whole group discussion and teaching, as well as brief forum theatre interactions with the two actors, before working in two smaller groups where there will valuable opportunity to practice assertive skills and receive constructive feedback.

Aims

To help participants to deal with specific difficult situations at work and to manage difficult conversations in an assertive, constructive and respectful way.

Objectives

To increase participants self-awareness of their own behaviour, and provide an opportunity to reflect, learn and put into practice assertiveness skills.

Learning outcomes
  • To recognise your own default patterns of behaviour and the impact of this.
  • To increase your options and choices in specific situations
  • To reflect on your inner barriers to being more assertive
  • To learn tips and techniques for increasing your assertiveness (and putting this into practice)
  • To give and receive feedback constructively (one key aspect of being assertive)
  • To learn how to make requests in a difficult situation more assertively
  • To find ways of saying ‘no’ confidently
  • To feel more comfortable with disagreeing and giving your opinion.
