DescriptionThis is a course for General Practitioners who wish to Clinically Supervise the International General Practitioner (IGP) in a Primary Care learning environment. This course is mandatory (also a GMC requirement) for all the doctors who wish to be Clinical Supervisors or Educational Supervisors for the IGPs. Even if you are already a Foundation Year Trainer or a GP Trainer you will be find this course will help you supervise and support the training of the IGPs. If you are already involved in supporting a IGP as a Clinical Supervisor or Educational Supervisor, it is recommended that you attend this as refresher course.

Structure of the course

The course will be run over the whole day (9:00-4:30).

There will be some presentations but most of the course learning will be provided in a small group format.

Objectives

By the end of the course the participant will:

  • Have a clear understanding of the role of a Clinical Supervisor and the primary health care team in learning and supervision of IGP
  • Have knowledge of the curriculum and how to identify the learning needs of the IGP
  • Be able to structure a teaching session for a learner and be aware of basic methods of teaching
  • Be able to teach and assess communication skills within the workplace
  • Understand the assessments that will be required and how to complete them
  • Have developed their own personal learning plan related to their role as a Clinical Supervisor
